1.Press the eject button to release the filter from the base grille.
2.Pull the filter straight out.
3.Turn the cap counterclockwise to remove it from the filter.
IMPORTANT: Do not discard the cap. It is part of your
refrigerator. Keep the cap to use with the replacement filter.
4.Align the ridge on the cap with the arrow on the new filter and turn the cap until it snaps into place.
NOTE: You can run the dispenser without a filter. Your water will not be filtered. Simply insert the cap all of the way into the base grille and rotate the cap until it is firmly in place.
5.Remove the protective covers from the O-rings. Be sure the O-rings are still in place after the covers are removed.
6.Push the filter into the base grille. The eject button will pop back out when the filter is fully engaged.
7.Run water from the dispenser for 5 minutes at .5 gpm (about 2½ gallons) to clear the system and prevent sputtering.
NOTE: Initial rate may be slower than expected. Full rate should be restored within 24-36 hours
8.Reset the “replace filter” light, if needed, by holding the reset button for three seconds.

The water quality was excellent. I flushed about three and a half gallons out before using it. The dispensing speed is good, too. Otherwise, I'm a little disappointed in the price. I guess we used over 200 gallons of water in less than 3 full months, but not convinced that is correct. According to the Fridge red filter light, we need to replace it now.

Works well, easy to install and a reasonable price. This is my first purchase of this filter 9030 and I'm quite happy with the product. I haven't noticed any bad smells or off flavors from the water passed through this filter although we have pretty good water quality here in the Pacific Northwest straight from the tap.

I recently purchased a house that came with a fridge that required these filters. These have been great! I have not experienced any issues and it does what I need it to do, so I am extremely happy. It's not too expensive and lasts my family of 6 about 3 months.

Fantastic water filter at a decent price. I have a pretty keen sense of taste for water. I once did a blind taste test with about 6 different bottles of water and picked them all out in order of how expensive they were. So...yeah I'm kind of an expert. My ice also tastes fine and I haven't seen any particles in them. Neither my wife nor I have died so, I assume it is filtering great! I only wish these filters lasted longer. My fridge said it needed replaced after about 2 months.

I had always purchased, and been very satisfied, with the previous version of this filter. Noticed that most of the reviews said Whirlpool 4396841 is perfect so made the purchase. No odors, no odd taste - works just fine. Now just hoping for better pricing value!!

Does what is supposed to do. Before, if I filled a waterbottle with water and finished it then left it there for a few days, I'd smell it and it'd smell like mildew. Now it doesn't do that so its great.
How often should you replace your water filter?
- On average, most filters last 6 months or 300 gallons depending on your water quality and usage.
How do I turn off my filter light to reset?
- If the filter light will not reset after following specific instructions from your owner manual, contact your refrigerator manufacturer.
Do the gaskets (o-rings) on the filters need to be lubricated?
- Most water filters come with pre-lubricated O-rings
- If you are having trouble installing the filter, we have found that a small amount of vegetable oil applied to the O-ring will ease installation and removal of the filter.
I just installed my filter; do I need to run water through it before I drink the water? If so, how much?
- You should run 3 gallons of water through your filter in order to flush it and make sure that it is thoroughly wet. Do not run the 3 gallons continuously, instead run the water for a few minutes and stop in between. Get a gallon water container, and pour and refill 3 times!
